Yakitori Restaurant Daikichi

The yakitori restaurant Daikichi opened across the street from SU on October 24, 2014. It’s run by 29-year-old Yuuta Kawashima. The restaurant can serve up to 26 customers. There are three areas where five people can sit (you could probably seat seven each if you squeeze them in), two tables that seat two people each and seven chairs at the counter.

Daikichi is a franchise chain restaurant operated out of Osaka. There are 20 Daikichi restaurants in Hokkaido, 18 of which are in Sapporo. There are a total of 900 Daikichi restaurants throughout Japan.

Kawashima began working for a moving company after graduating from high school. At the age of 26 he began working at the Daikichi restaurant located in Shiroishi. He said, “My goal was to learn the business and save enough money to open my own Daikichi franchise somewhere in Sapporo and be my own boss.”

Although the menu is set by the company, individual franchise owners can make their own side menu to appeal to the tastes of local area residents. The yakitori menu is very reasonably priced between 120 yen to 140 yen. Other food items, such as fried chicken and soups cost between 300 yen to 450 yen, and drinks are from 350 yen to 400 yen.

Daikichi is open from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day except Tuesdays. Kawashima said that most customers are local area residents and some are SU teachers. “Most students have finished classes by 5:00 p.m., but I hope that students who live nearby will come by and try my yakitori.” He also said that he is always on the lookout for part-time workers, so if you are looking for a part-time job Daikichi would be a very convenient place for you to work.
