A Japanese NBA Player

Yuki Kawamura is from Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. He was active in basketball nationwide in both elementary and junior high school. He entered Fukuoka Daiichi High School and won two consecutive national championships.

He signed two contracts to play in the Japanese B-League at the age of 18, making him the youngest player in the history of the league. After playing for the B-League, he went to the United States to challenge the NBA.

Kawamura is currently a player with a two-way contract with the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G-League. Currently, several Japanese players play in the NBA, but he is very short, at 1.68 m (5 ft 6 in). Despite this handicap, his performance in the G-League has been outstanding. 

Kawamura has improved so much that he seems like a different person in just one season. The distance between Japan’s three-point line and the NBA’s three-point line is different, so he couldn’t shoot easily at first. 

However, in the second half of the season, he was able to make adjustments, and he showed his great adaptability. He wasn’t able to sign a contract with the NBA this season, but he left a good impression, so we can look forward to his future performance.

河村勇輝山口県柳井市出身。小中学生時代はバスケットボールで全国大会に出場し、活躍。福岡第一高校に進学し、全国大会2連覇を達成。彼は18歳のとき、日本のBリーグでプレイする2つの契約を結び、リーグ史上最年少の選手となった。Bリーグでの活躍後、NBAに挑戦するため渡米。

河村選手は現在、NBA Gリーグのメンフィス・ハッスルとツーウェイ契約を結んでいる。現在、NBAでプレーする日本人選手は数多くいるが、彼の身長は168センチ（5フィート6インチ）と非常に低い。しかし、このハンディキャップにもかかわらず、Gリーグでの彼の活躍は目覚ましいものがある。

  河村選手はたった1シーズンで別人のように成長しました。日本のスリーポイントラインとNBAのスリーポイントラインの距離が違うので、最初はなかなかシュートが打なかったそうだ。。

しかし、シーズン後半は適応力も向上し、高い適応力を見せました。今シーズンはNBAとの契約こそ逃しましたが、良い印象を残してくれたので、今後の活躍に期待が持てる。
