Aomori Nebuta Festival

The Aomori Nebuta Festival is held every year from August 2 to 7 in downtown Aomori. This festival, which celebrates the summer season in the Tohoku region, attracts about 3 million visitors every year.

The highlight of the festival is the giant Nebuta floats, which are decorated with motifs of Samurai warriors and historical figures. Local craftsmen spend a year handcrafting these colorful floats, which are then paraded through the streets at night. 

The Haneto dancers are another attraction of the festival. Tourists can also participate in this dance, which involves bouncing around in colorful costumes, by registering in advance. The participants’ call of “rassera, rassera” is also a distinctive feature of the festival.

Nebuta House Wa Rasse, located within walking distance from Aomori Station, is a tourist facility that showcases the history and charm of the Nebuta Festival in all its glory. Visitors can see the colorful  Nebuta floats throughout the year there.

In addition to Nebuta, Aomori has many other festivals, sightseeing spots, and delicious food. If you have never been to Aomori, you should go there at least once if you have the chance.

青森ねぶた祭

毎年8月2日から7日まで、青森市中心部で開催される「青森ねぶた祭」。東北の夏を彩るこの祭りには、毎年約300万人が訪れる。

祭りのハイライトは、武者や歴史上の人物をモチーフにした巨大ねぶただ。地元の職人が1年がかりで手作りする色鮮やかなねぶたは、夜の街を練り歩く。 

ハネトの踊り手もこの祭りの魅力のひとつだ。カラフルな衣装で跳ね回るこの踊りは、観光客も事前に申し込めば参加できる。「ラッセーラ、ラッセーラ」という参加者の掛け声も祭りの特徴だ。

青森駅から徒歩圏内にある「ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ」は、ねぶた祭の歴史と魅力を余すところなく伝える観光施設だ。一年を通して色とりどりのねぶたを見ることができる。

ねぶた以外にも、青森にはたくさんの祭りや観光スポット、おいしい食べ物がある。まだ青森に行ったことがない人は、機会があれば一度は行ってください。
