PhotoMatch Intercollegiate National Championship 2025

Have you ever thought of photography as a competition? The PhotoMatch Intercollegiate National Championship was held from August 21 to 24 in Abashiri, Hokkaido. It was the first time to hold a national championship competition.

Prior to the national championship competition there were the East Japan Championship and the West Japan Championship. The top two teams from each of those competitions along with two teams from the Hokkaido special slot participated. Chiba Institute of Technology, Nihon University, Konan University, Doshisha University, Tokyo University of Agriculture, and Sapporo University participated in this tournament.

Each university formed a team of three students, and each participant submitted five photographs for a total of fifteen. Two photographs were projected onto a screen, and each of the three judges cast one vote for the photograph they considered superior, and the winner was decided by the final tally of votes.

The first day of shooting was at the waterfall near Cape Notoro, the roadside rest area Michi-No-Eki, and Mokoto Train Station. It was raining that night, but everyone still went out to take pictures. The second day of shooting was at Okhotsk Chipmunk Park, Yobito Station, Phrox Park, and Lake Abashiri. Unfortunately, Sapporo University finished in third place. Of course, the SU team wanted to win, but as it was Sapporo University's first match, the result was good.

In addition, a photograph taken by one of the SU participants, Tenyu Kobayashi, won the Abashiri Mayor's Award,and NiSi Filters JAPAN presented a supplementary prize. The mayor of Abashiri said that by holding the national tournament in Abashiri every year, the photos taken in the city would become the city’s assets. If possible, the SU team would like to participate in the competition again next year. We will have to do our best to balance studies, job hunting, and photography.

写真が競技になるなんて考えたことはありますか？北海道網走市で8月21日から24日にかけて、フォトマッチインターカレッジ全国大会が開催されました。この大会は初めての全国大会でした。

全国大会の前に東日本大会と西日本大会があり、各大会の上位2チームと北海道特別枠が2チームが参加しました。千葉工業大学、日本大学、甲南大学、同志社大学、東京農業大学、札幌大学がこの大会に参加しました。

各大学は3人チームで各参加者5点、計15点の作品を提出します。2つの写真が画面に映し出され3人のジャッジが優れていると思った方に票を入れます。最終的に票が多い方が勝者となります。

1日目の撮影場所は、能取岬の近くにある滝、道の駅、藻琴駅でした。その日の夜、雨が降っていましたが、みんな外で写真を撮っていました。

2日目はオホーツクシマリス公園、呼人駅、フロックス公園、網走湖に撮影に行きました。大会の結果は、残念ながら札幌大学は3位でした。もちろん優勝を取りたかったですが、札幌大学の初めての大会にしては良い結果でした。

さらに、札幌大学の小林天佑さんが撮影した写真が、網走市長賞を獲得し、さらにNiSiFilters Japanから副賞が送られました。網走市長は、網走で全国大会を毎年開催すれば、市内で撮られた写真が市の資産となると言いました。もし可能なら、札幌大学は来年も参加したいと考えています。私たちは勉強、就活、写真すべてに全力を尽くさなければなりません。
