ロサンゼルスの治安はあまり良くはなく、全米で第二位の犯罪発生率となっています。かつては治安の悪い都市の代表格として、いまだにそのイメージを根強く持つ日本人も多いでしょう。ロサンゼルスには世界都市の中でも最も日本人在住者が多く、日常生活を営んでいる事実から、そこまで過度な心配はしなくても良いでしょう。注意が必要なエリアばかりではなく、サンタモニカやトーランス、ウェストウッドといった、比較的安心して生活できるエリアもあります。

ここではそんなロサンゼルスの治安について紹介したいと思います。データによるとロサンゼルスの犯罪件数は2014年から増加傾向にあるといえます。現地で起こりうるトラブルを4つ紹介したいと思います。一つ目のトラブルはスリや置き引きです。ロサンゼルスの街中では、スリや置き引きといった犯罪が頻発しています。こういった犯罪は、ロサンゼルスで起こっている犯罪では比較的軽度なほうです。

しかし、外出先でパスポートなどの身分証明書を盗まれると厄介なことになります。人が多いショッピング施設や駅、空港に行くときは、とくに要注意。治安がよいと言われているエリアでも、油断は禁物です。レストランやカフェといった飲食店、ホテルなどもスリや置き引きの被害が多い場所と言われています。
