Seishounen Science Museum

The Seishonen Science Museum, also known as the Sapporo Science Center, opened in 1981 near Shin Sapporo Station and it has been popular with Sapporo citizens. Local kids often go there when they want to hang out near Shin Sapporo station or view the stars at the planetarium because children can use it for free. Also, this museum reopened in 2026 after renovation, so now their facilities are new and the interiors are clean. 

The museum has exhibits popular with children who live around Atsubetsu Ward. They can play at the facilities there and learn about science. The most popular attraction is the planetarium. It can project one thousand stars onto a dome with a diameter of 18 meters. Also, this planetarium shows different zodiac signs each month which would actually be seen in the night sky in Sapporo. 

In addition, the planetarium recently projects some videos in collaboration with popular anime. For example, they have collaborated with “Doraemon” and “Konan.” The next most popular are the industrial snowplow and train exhibits where you can sit in the driver’s seats and learn how those machines move. 

The most striking of all of the exhibits is the big globe in the Astronomy and Earth Sciences section. The globe has a diameter of 20 meters. You can learn about the Earth and the universe there. For example, you can learn how earthquakes and volcanoes occur. 

Also, when you look up, you can see models of the planets in the solar system which are designed to be approximately 1/70 millionth of the actual size and line up like real planets, so you can learn about the size of planets and how they line up.

The Seishounen Science Museum has recently been renewed and the number of exhibits has increased. It’s enjoyable for both children and adults. You should go there at least once.

青少年科学館

札幌科学センターとしても知られる、青少年科学館は1981年に新札幌駅の近くで開かれ、現在でも多くの札幌市民に人気です。子供は無料で科学館を利用できるため、地元の子供たちは新札幌駅の近くで遊ぶ時や、プラネタリウムで星を見るときよくそこに行きます。また、この科学館は2026年にリニューアルオープンしており、現在そこの展示物は新しく、施設もきれいです。

その科学館には厚別区の近くに住んでいる子供たちに人気な展示物があります。かれらはそこの施設で遊び、科学について学ぶことができます。そこで最も人気のあるアトラクションはプラネタリウムです。直径１８メートルのドームに約1000個の星を映すことができます。また、このプラネタリウムでは毎月実際に札幌の夜空で見える異なる星座を見ることができます。

さらに最近では有名なアニメとコラボした映像も投影されています。例えばドラえもんや、名探偵コナンとコラボしたことがあります。次に業務用除雪車と鉄道の展示も人気です。それらは両方とも実物が展示されています。運転室へ座ることができ、それらの機械がどのようにして動くのか学ぶことができます。

すべての展示物の中で最も目立っているのは天文学、地球科学コーナーにある大きな地球儀です。この地球儀は直径約20メートルあります。そこでは地球や宇宙について学ぶことができます。例えばどのようにして地震や火山の噴火が起こるかがわかります。
