The Attractions and Problems of the Osaka Expo

Osaka World Expo 2025 opened on April 13 and will end on October 13. This is the second time Osaka has hosted a World Expo. The first time was in 1972. However, there have been some concerns about construction deadlines and costs. 

There were three basic problems with the Osaka Expo. First, the construction cost of the Type X Pavilion was too expensive. According to the Turner & Townsend Construction Price List, it cost more to build than a resort hotel or a luxury car showroom, and twice as much as a general hospital in Tokyo. One Expo official accused the organizers of trying to squeeze money out of countries wanting to participate rather than help them. 

The second problem was poor communication between construction companies and participating countries.  International participants were astounded by the inefficiency of Japan's bureaucracy. “It takes three or four months to get a construction permit,” said Dietmar Kaustitz, founder of project management company SPI. “We really need a way to speed it up.” 

The third problem was rising expenses. The government claimed that “security” was the reason for the additional costs, citing attacks on former Prime Minister Abe. What does all this have to do with the Expo? Five hundred days before it was scheduled to open, costs nearly doubled, spilling over into the hands of every Japanese taxpayer. 

Other problems abounded, including a lack of hotel rooms for participants, a shortage of staff for the Expo, and difficulties with transportation to Yumeshima. Despite all of the problems, the Expo opened on time as planned and has many interesting attractions.

The first thing you can experience at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 is the Future Technology Experience Zone. At the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, you can actually experience transportation methods of the near future. One vehicle that is attracting a lot of attention is the flying car. It is a vehicle that can take off and land vertically and is expected to be a new means of transportation.

You can also tour the world’s pavilions. Approximately 150 countries and 25 international organizations are participating, and each country's pavilion introduces the latest technology and culture.

There are also many authentic, high-quality shows and performances. The water and air spectacle show Blue and Night Rainbow Parade is a spectacular light show that takes place above the Expo Hall, the main facility of the Expo site. Cutting-edge technology and digital art are combined to welcome visitors into a fantastical world of water and light.

The admission fee is 6,000 yen and you can experience cutting-edge technology from all over the world for a day. You should definitely go there if you have the chance.

大阪万博は2025年、4月13日から10月13日までの6か月間開催されます。大阪で万博が開催されるのは2回目です。1回目は1972年でした。しかし、建設の期限と費用については懸念が多いです。

まず、大阪万博には3つの根本的な問題がありました。まず、タイプXパビリオンの建設費が高すぎたことだ。ターナー・アンド・タウンゼント建設価格表によると、リゾートホテルや高級車ショールームよりも高く、東京の総合病院の2倍の費用がかかりました。ある万博関係者は、主催者が参加を希望する国々を助けるのではなく、資金を搾り取ろうとしていると非難しました。

二つ目の問題は、建設会社と参加国間のコミュニケーション不足でした。海外の参加者は、日本の官僚機構の非効率性に驚愕しました。「建設許可の取得に3～4か月もかかります」と、プロジェクトマネジメント会社SPIの創設者であるディートマー・カウスティッツ氏は述べています。「本当にスピードアップが必要です。」

三つ目の問題は、経費の増大です。政府は、安倍前首相襲撃を理由に、経費増加の理由を「安全保障」だと主張しました。一体、これらは万博とどのような関係があるのでしょうか？開業予定日の500日前に費用はほぼ倍増し、その負担は日本の納税者全員にのしかかります。  参加者用のホテル不足、万博スタッフの不足、夢洲への交通手段の確保など、様々な問題が山積していました。しかし、万博は予定通り開場し、多くの魅力的なアトラクションが揃っています。

2025年大阪・関西万博でまず体験できるのは、「未来技術体験ゾーン」です。2025年大阪・関西万博では、近未来の移動手段を実際に体験することができます。中でも注目を集めているのが「空飛ぶクルマ」。垂直離着陸が可能な乗り物で、新たな移動手段として期待されています。世界のパビリオンを巡ることもできます。約150カ国と25の国際機関が参加し、各国のパビリオンでは最新の技術や文化が紹介されています。
